Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.
Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.
If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.
If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

This Level 3 programme is designed to encompasses the essential skills, knowledge and understanding needed to progress into employment in the public services whilst developing personal skills and attributes to gain confidence ready for success in working life. The qualification will extend and deepen the specialist work-related focus for either careers in uniformed and non-uniformed public service roles.
Your qualification will be made up of a series on mandatory and optional units which may include:
- Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
- Government, Policies and the Public Services
- Skills for Land and Water-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
- Planning and Management of Major Incidents
- Social Welfare Services
- Crime and it’s Effects on Society
This qualification will form part of a study programme which will include exclusive access to our Sports Academy and Enrichment programme, Maths & English, Tutorial support, Work Experience, and development of employability and study skills.
You will start off on a one year programme studying 90 credits (equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels). Upon successful completion of year one you will then have the opportunity to progress onto the second year, completing a further 90 credits to achieve a full Extended Diploma (3 A-level equivalent).

5 GCSE's grade A*-C (including Maths and English. GCSEs in Science & PE are also desirable) Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit/Distinction grade (or equivalent) + GCSE English & Maths at Grade C Some applicants may be asked to sit a literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment and must achieve a minimum of L1 All applicants must successfully pass an academic interview.
During this course you will build a portfolio of evidence which will include a variety of assessment evidence including witness testimonies, practical observations, written/oral questions, essays, reports, projects and presentations.
Learners who complete the Extended Diploma often go on to University or directly into employment in a range of fields including (but not limited to):
- Armed Forces - Army, Navy, RAF
- Emergency Services - Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service
- Criminology or Forensic Science
- Custodial Services
- Immigration Services
You will be required to attend college for approximately 13 hours per week, Monday-Friday. In addition you will be expected to carry out a minimum of 3-6 hours independent study per week to complete coursework, assignments, projects and self-directed study.
You will learn in dedicated classrooms and in high quality facilities including a full sized Sports Hall, Exercise Studio and Sports Science Laboratory with state of the art equipment. Some lessons may also occur in the large on-site health and fitness club, which students also have access to free of charge, or at off-site facilities. You will also learn through a range of relevant trips, visits and guest lectures.
Who is this course for?
This Public Services Diploma Level 2 course is designed to equip students with a practical and theoretical foundation for careers in the uniformed public services. Students will gain an understanding of this industry in general and an insight into the various career options available to them. We have close links with the Police Force, Fire Service, Military and other public sector organisations. Students will also take part in practical team building exercises and leadership activities, which include visits to the Services.
